Introduction

The library is the heart of any educational institution. It indicates the quality of teaching-learning activity in an institution. A well-equipped and well-managed library is the foundation of a modern educational structure. The importance of the library in education can be appreciated properly only if we try to understand the changing concepts of education today. Education without library service is like a body without a soul, a vehicle without an engine, and an “edifice merely a collection of bricks without cement”. Education & library service are twin sisters; one cannot live apart from the other. According to the 5th law of library science, “The library is a growing organism”. A library is a social institution that will keep growing like an organism.

Objectives
  • To promote the reading habits of students and faculty members of the institution.
  • To disseminate information regarding Current Awareness Services (CAS) for the benefit of faculties and students to keep them updated with the latest developments in their area of interest.
  • Implementation of an Information Communication Technology (ICT) application for quick information storage, retrieval, and delivery to the user community.
  • To put effort into enhancing the quality by subscribing to quality journals.
  • To procure books based on the needs of students and faculty members.
  • To provide digital library service to all students enabling them to avail 24/7 service.

Responsibility
  • Assist the librarian in selecting standard and relevant textbooks that align with the updated curriculum.
  • Promote greater student engagement with library resources.
  • Collaborate with the librarian to subscribe to magazines, periodicals, and books for competitive exams.
  • Work with the librarian to ensure the implementation of the library's code of conduct.
Functions
  • The library committee meets twice a year, during which members present their requirements for library procurement.
  • The librarian compiles the list of requested books from faculty members, approved by the Heads of Departments, and submits it to the Principal with a relevant note.
  • The Principal reviews the list with the committee, verifies the allocated budget, and forwards the proposal to the management for approval.
  • When procuring library books, the institution invites three quotations from different vendors, and selects the one that offers the lowest price while meeting all specifications.
  • Once procured, the books are added to the library's inventory and placed on the shelves for use.
  • The librarian renews both online (N-LIST) and print journal subscriptions annually.

Faculty Services

The following are the services of the library:

Orientation Programme:

The orientation program is conducted to create awareness among first-year students of all programs about the proper utilization of library resources and services. This program also provides information about the N-List (e-Shodha Sindhu) consortium and provides awareness regarding usage of the same by creating login credentials.

Reference Service:

The library has a good collection of reference books including Dictionaries, Year books, Competitive examination books, etc.

OPAC Facility:

The institution's user community can access the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to easily find information about the availability and location of materials in the library. Students have the privilege to refer to or download previous years' question papers from any location. Additionally, the library keeps printed question papers organized by year in booklets for the reference of both students and faculty members.

INTERNET Facility

SEVEN computers with internet access are available for accessing the library e-resources.

Notice Board

The notice board is placed at the entrance of the library. Students get updates about employment and career opportunities, newspaper clippings, etc through the notice board.

Inter-Library Borrowing Facility:

The PESIAMS has an internal MOU with the PESITM library of MBA to facilitate more accessibility of library resources at PESITM.

Reprography Service:

Xerox and print facilities are made available for students at lower cost.
